Why a Family Session at Home Can Be Awesome
Recently, I got to do a "home session" with one of my favorite families (who also happen to be long-time friends of mine). I've been shooting Marni & Kevin for several years now, and love watching their family grow :-) This shoot was particularly special though. It was their first photo session as a family of four . . . in the home that Marni's grandmother left to them after she passed away a few months ago. They are just getting settled in and making it their own and asked me to help capture some new memories in this home that holds so much family history.
It's always fun scouting for photo locations and discovering new and fun places to shoot, but I have to say, there's something so special about photographing a family in their own home. Anyone who's ever had professional family photos taken knows it's no small task to get your family photo-ready. Knowing that you won't have to pack up the car, face traffic or risk forgetting something at your house, can be a huge stress-reliever. More important than convenience though, being photographed in your own home allows you to let your guard down and just be you. It gives a little glimpse into your life, and in this case, even celebrates the past. Plus you get to play with the water hose, run around half-naked and jump on the bed . . . the kids, of course ;-)
Many years of memories in this home . . . and many more to come!
